Ally is expanding to Mexico!
While in the pandemic, local businesses have to rely on food delivery services in order for their quarantined customers to receive orders. Unfortunately, conventional food delivery services typically charge as high as 35% of the total order value. Mexican businesses are getting every penny squeezed out of them. With 35% of their incomes taken by delivery platforms, it comes as no surprise that they struggle to stay afloat.
Mexico had a strong entrepreneur scene before Covid-19 hit. It is the second largest economy in Latin America, first being Brazil. However in 2020, the economy plummeted 8.2%. During 2020, there were four million small and mid-size enterprises that employed 47.2% of the workforce and represented 12.4% of the total gross production. Because of the pandemic, more than one million of them closed.
Similarly, Mexico boasted more than 640,000 restaurants nationwide pre-pandemic. Now, At least 150,000 Mexican businesses have closed due to the pandemic. In Mexico City, around 15% of local restaurants had closed. A lot of them are struggling to open.
